Better Homes and Gardens blogged about using a plastic cereal container and turning it into a trashcan, and I saw the finished idea pinned on Pinterest.
A few days later, I was about to throw away a giant, dishwasher gel pack container that was empty when I realized IT was the perfect size to do the same project.
(container with Mod Podge on it, ready to apply fabric)
Because the container was clear, and I didn't want an ugly trashbag showing in my car, I used some cute fabric scraps to Mod Podge onto my container.
That was it! SO easy. I want to put down some velcro on the bottom of my container to keep the container stable and still in the car, but I am excited to finally have a place to put wipes, napkins, straw wrappers, gum, etc.
(Applying the fabric)
All done!
My little trash generator likes it too! Let's take it to the car!
We certainly generate a lot of trash in that car, so I'm sure this will be great!
ReplyDeleteI need to make one for Brandon, he trashes his car and I refuse to travel in it!!
ReplyDeleteWhy just use this idea for trash? All kinds of ideas are popping into my head. You could repurpose the large kitty little cans for dog food or cat food storage(those cost a fortune). Or make several to use in the laundry room to disguise soap powers or dry bleach.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! Good way to think outside the box!!
ReplyDeleteVery nice! Saw it on Pinterest!
ReplyDeleteFound this on Pinterest! Seriously the cutest idea EVER. As soon as I empty mine I m going to make one for the laundry room!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for stopping by! This is still one of my favorite little crafts--so useful. I appreciate the encouragement!
Deleteanother idea to keep it from moving around in the car is to place a rock on the bottom of the garbage can under the bag.
ReplyDeleteLove the idea! I also love the fabric and I need that print for my classroom. Do you know where you purchased it from? Thanks! :0)

ReplyDeleteHi, Sheila! I purchased this fabric at Joann's Fabric. It was awhile ago, but I am sure you can find something similar if they don't carry it anymore. Thanks for the encouragement!

Love this idea - and the dishwasher pod containers ARE best used this way, and not for toys/foods etc. Love it and saw on Pinterest. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Elizabeth! Yes, I agree, that the container is best re-used in a capacity like this. Thanks for the kind words and for popping by!

ReplyDeleteThank you for the idea!

I was wondering if your seam overlapped and how you covered the bottom? If possible, would you post or e-mail me a picture of the two? Thanks! ladybugtina@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteThis is an amazing idea. The Velcro thing is also great. Indeed, we do produce lots of waste in a car and having such a trashcan will keep things organized and cleaned. This post will definitely inspire others to try out this simple project.
ReplyDeleteLove this idea! I did a similar one but with scrapbook paper instead. Here's my post about it: http://sanityincreativity.blogspot.ca/2013/01/pretty-trash.html
ReplyDeleteI covered one for my sewing room for bits of treads and scrap material. It's just what I needed. I am making the car container next.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great idea and so easy too.
Wow!!! This is great idea. Now I am preparing to make a trash for car and I also think that I make some trash for my children's toys.Thank you very much for sharing with us.
